Woven silk Japanese kimono, circa 1930s - 1940s vintage.
Beautifully made, this elegant piece would be wonderful as a robe or as a jacket, even over classic separates, as a simple dress, or as a formal/ evening jacket.
Shibori method of sectioning and dyeing to create a slightly puckered, multi- tonal effect, as shown.
Lightweight silk crepe outer with natural clubs to the weave and all over wrinkling within each diamond- shaped pattern.
Vibrant royal purple background with all over patterning in bright turquoise / aqua, palest orange and pale golden yellow.
Lined in mostly orange silk jacquard, each of the lower side panels has a section of tinted floral print lining in the same jacquard weave- see last photo.
Sleeve ends are lined in a white textile with crisp cotton feel.
Dropped shoulder seams, wide kimono sleeves.
This could also be worn open, as shown, or belted with more of a traditional obi- style belt.
Condition is very, very good-
The exterior looks wonderful.
The interior lining has three long, narrow tears - left center upper back, and one on each side of the lower back hem as well as a few marks, as shown. None of this is visible from the exterior.
Otherwise excellent, no other staining, holes or damage.
Of a wonderful weight and a beautiful fabric, this is an amzing piece of wearable art.
